    As long as the divide did not degenerate into a national divide, Lee said,
    it would not have much impact on the growth of the country.
    However, he cautioned that if the political divide turned into constant
    bickering, like what was happening between the Democrats and Republicans in the
    United States, then Singapore would become just "another ordinary country".
